Biographical / Historical
Hellenmerie "Rie" Walker joined Civil Air Patrol when she was 16 years old. She served from 1942-1945 during World War II. She rejoined the CAP for 10 years from 1979 to 1989, and officially retired as a lieutenant colonel. She was awarded a Congressional Gold Medal last year for her work in helping develop the Historical Program of Civil Air Patrol.
She also served in the Peace Corps and in Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA).
Much of her working life was spent in Oregon where she worked as a nurse's aide, a licensed practical nurse, an occupational therapy assistant, as an office manager and in real estate sales.
