Content Description
Photographs P1 – P1500. Historic photographs cover various topics relating to the Nez Perce - Clearwater National Forest and Forest Service activities, predominantly dating from the early- to mid-20th century but also incorporating dates in the late 20th century. Topics and activities portrayed in photographs include rangers and other forest employees; flora and fauna; hunting and fishing; forest buildings and historical structures; logging and timber management; fire lookouts and fire management; road, trail, and other construction projects; forest landscapes; and tours, parties, and cultural activities.
This is Part 1 of a larger accession relating to the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest Forest Service Historical Photograph Collection. The original transfer includes over 40 additional document boxes of images. Additional parts will be created as more of the collection is processed.

2 items : Photograph looking down at a series of tents pitched on a flat, snowy area with brush in foreground and sparse trees in background. Description on back says: Era ([NIRA?]) camps at Kelly Forks winter 1935-36. / Hartig foreman w/ Jess Woods + Art Roberts asst foreman. / 4 tents in foreground were foreman quarters, timekeepers office + quarters, tool tent, + one occupied by an engineer who wasn't attached to camp. / Long building with [?] shape was cook house + mess hall. The other tents were crewquarters. Intended to have 120 men at the camp buy eventually only had about 60. / Much work done by crew: cleared RT of way for Kelly Ck Road, built K.C. campground, built metallic circuit telephone line from camp 1/2 way to 4th July ck. Cut wood for all camps on forest including 2 CCC camps, Pierce R.S. + 3 other era camps. Cleared the flat where Kelly Ck R.S. is now located plus other jobs. / 10-CW-34 / Northfork District / descr G8, E12, H12 / 11-3. North Zone.
