George E. "Cap" Horton collection
Content Description
This collection contains papers and photographs of George E. Horton, U of I alum and Graduate Manager from 1924-1939. Some highlighted materials includes is Rafe Gibbs' book, Beacon of the Mountain and Plain (marked pages of George Horton activity), two red and white Pendleton "Idaho" blankets used during early days of U of I athletics, field glassess, and Horton's U of I diploma from 1906.

Biographical / Historical
George Elmer Horton was born on September 4, 1879 near Garfield, Washington. He attended the University of Idaho and graduated with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering in 1906. While at the university he participated in football and track and field. Horton later became U of I's Graduate Manager, a role he was in for about fourteen years (1925 to 1939). He also served as secretary-treasurer and manager of the Idaho Memorial association which had sponsored the building of the Memorial Gym. George E. Horton died on May 26, 1949.
