Joseph J. Ulliman was a professor in the Unviersity of Idaho College of Forestry. He was very active in photogrammetry and research. This collection includes some of his correspondence, research notes, aerial photography projects, maps, and other related items.

Biographical / Historical

Joseph James Ulliman was born on July 19, 1935 to Joseph James and Iola Mar (Roth) Ulliman in Springfield, Ohio. He first recived his bachelors degree in English from the University of Dayton. A short time after he served in the U.S. Army as a staff officer (1959-1965). He stayed in the Army Resvers as a Unit Commander from 1967 to 1968. After leaving the Army, he went on to finish both his masters and Ph.D. in Forest Management at the University of Minnesota. Ulliman came to the University of Idaho in 1974 as an Associate Professor in the College of Forestry. He later because the Associate Dean of the college, and the department head for Forest Resources. Ulliman was also a remote sensing specialist, and in 1983 he was elected to second deputy director of the Remote Sensing Applications Divsion of the American Society of Photogrammetry. Ulliman also acted as the advisor for the Idaho Forester publications for about twelve years.
