Biographical / Historical

Iver J. Longeteig was born on March 9, 1917 to I. J. and Frances Mason Longeteig in Mohler, Idaho. During his childhood his family moved to the Craigmont area. Here he attended grade and high school, and after graduation atteneded the University of Idaho. At U of I he pursued a degree in education. He was also a member of Chi Alpha Pi, the Intercollegiate Knights, and the Gem Business staff.

He began teaching at a school in Plummer, Idaho. At his father's request, he moved back to Craigmont, Idaho to help the family farm get through the war. (WWI?WWII?) Iver was later elected to the local grange's board of directors. He later became a member of the wholesale board in Junrary 1945, serving until 1965. The Grange Cooperative Wholesale was a buying organization for the various stations in many small towns. This organization began in the 1930s. In his last seven years of membership he was president. During this time Iver tried to get Wholesale to merge with Cenex, a big co-op out of the midwest that owned its own oil wells. However, the group didn't merge until after Iver left the board.

Iver also served on the U of I Alumni Board and was president in 1964. Interestingly he had a hand in the construction of several farm buildings in the Craigmont area - and even help build the Craigmont Post Office. He died in 1994 at 77 years old.
