Biographical / Historical

Frank Ankenbrand Jr. spend some of his renting a room in the home of Homer L. Pound, connecting him to the writings of Ezra Pound, an American poet who was born in Hailey, Idaho prior to Idaho becoming a state. Ankenbrand’s relationship with Homer L. Pound meant that some of the correspondence the two had were about Ezra Pound, who reshaped the American poetry scene and inspired some of America’s great poets of the early and mid-1900’s. Pound self-exiled himself, moving from the United States to London, England, where he would settle for some time before his MA took him to other parts of Europe. Pound chose to exile himself to avoid punishment from the United States due to his beliefs that aligned with the Fascist beliefs of the Italian leader, Mussolini, and his push for the patronage of the arts. Homer and Ankenbrand both kept paper clippings of Ezra’s exploits and would later start to collect the works and news of Ezra’s daughter, Mary de Rachewiltz, who is also a poet and educator.
