Scope and Contents

Family photographs of Adolph "Duffie" and Effie Miller, of Dixie, Idaho, featuring family members, friends and relatives, vacations, hunting and fishing trips, mining, railroad construction, and rodeos; accompanied by birth and graduation announcements, poems, songs, and other items. The first folder contains photos affixed to a scrapbook type album. The majority of the rest of the items are loose but have been removed from a similar album. Additional materials include a steroscope and books from Miller family.

Biographical / Historical

Adolph “Duffie” Miller was born in 27 January 1897 in Nykoring Mors, Denmark. He arrived in the United States via New York City on the vessel Norge in approximately 1898. He married Effie L. Powelson. He worked in various mines around Dixie and Elk City, Idaho, often employed as a furnaceman. Miller died in 1988 and was buried in Grangeville, Idaho.

Effie L. Powelson Miller was born in 1890 in Castle Rock, Washington to Howard Powelson and Emma May Boultinghouse. She married Duffie Miller. Effie Miller died in 1975 and is buried in Grangeville, Idaho.

Also includes a collection of stereoscopic images and stereoscope viewer.

Arrangement

Materials were added to PG 23. Four books were removed from the donation and passed along to the subject liaison to see if they were of interest for the main book collections. A few newspaper issues were deaccessioned from the collection due to additional better copies already existing in the Special Collections materials or within the Library.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

Original materials were found during Special Collections office clean up in 1984. Additional materials were dropped off at the Univeristy of Idaho Library's circulation desk in 2024.

Four books were removed during processing and passed along to the Subject Liason Librarian for consideration in the main collections.
