Abstract

Correspondence, memos, and other material pertaining to Acquisitions, Cataloging, Serials/Periodicals, and Fiscal Officer/Gifts Librarian of the University of Idaho Library.

Arrangement

The records are separated by department, each department having its own series.

The Acquisitions material in series one includes instructional and procedural manuals, memos, and statistics.

The second series consists of the records of the Cataloging Department and contains memos and WLN (Western Library Network) correspondence and statistics.

The records of the Serials/Periodicals department are in series three. Included are memos, statistics, and automation records.

Paul Conditt was head of acquisitions for many years while also handling budgets and gifts. His last few years before retiring from the University of Idaho Library he was fiscal officer and gifts librarian only; therefore his later records also contain committee records from his early years. These records are found in series four.

Routine acquisitions correspondence requesting prices, questioning invoices, and inquiring the status of orders was discarded. Catalog department WLN statistics were sampled by keeping only June 30 and December 30 monthly reports. Routine serials correspondence concerning orders and cancellations were also discarded. Finally routine inventory transfers and related material from the Fiscal Officer was discarded. This reduced the volume of records by 35 cubic feet.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

The records of the Technical Services departments of the University of Idaho Library were transferred to the Special Collections Department at various times from 1984 to 1995.
