Biographical / Historical
The operation of the University of Idaho Library is divided into Technical Services (UG 53) and Public Services. Prior to reorganization in 1993 the Public Services division of the University of Idaho Library was composed of three divisional libraries (Humanities, Social Science, and Science), Circulation and Interlibrary Loan. When the new library addition was occupied in 1993 the divisional libraries combined to form a centralized reference area.

Abstract
Included in the records are correspondence, committee records of the Humanities and Science librarians, videotapes and other papers.
Arrangement
The records of the Public Services division are arranged by subject library. Apparently the Social Science library did not transfer its records to Special Collections, so it is not represented in this collection. The records in each of the series are arranged alphabetically. There were a few folders transferred which did not fit into a divisional library and were classed in a series "Other" along with several videotapes.
The first series contains the records of the Humanities Library. Included are correspondence relating to the Bookmark, a library publication, and Snapdragon, a literary journal published in cooperation with the English department, library guides and handbooks, and material relating to the Orientation Committee and the Ezra Pound lecture series.
The records of the Science Library are in the second series. Among the papers are materials relating to the Automation committee, Library survey committee, and Library Affairs Committee, searching manuals, and the correspondence files of the several Science Librarians.
The remaining material is in series three. It includes material relating to ERIC searches, LITTY and reciprocal photocopy agreements, and four videotapes, three of which were used for library orientation presentations.
Routine correspondence requesting information was discarded, as were monthly billing records for computer searches and photocopy requests. This reduced the volume of records by 2 cubic feet.
Immediate Source of Acquisition
The records of the Public Services section of the University of Idaho Library were transferred to the Special Collections at various times between 1984 and 1995.
