Silver tea service
Scope and Contents
Five-piece silver tea service presented in 1907 to Mr. and Mrs. John Middleton by the members of the 1907 University of Idaho football team. John Middleton, head coach, led the team to one of the most successful seasons in Vandal history.
Engraved on the platter are the words: “To Mr. and Mrs. Middleton by Football Team ‘07” and the scores of the games played that season against the University of Oregon, University of Washington, Whitman College, and Washington State College. The initial “M” is engraved on the pitcher, creamer, sugar bowl, and waste bowl.

Immediate Source of Acquisition
Middleton donated the set to the University of Idaho in 1962, according to a clipping of an article from a 1962 edition of the Moscow, Idaho newspaper, Idahonian, found in the Special Collections & Archives’ vertical file. Illustrating the article is a photograph showing University of Idaho social sciences librarian Charles Webbert with the set.
