Biographical / Historical
The West Sunset Mining Company was a mining partnership, with claims held by individuals rather than a corporation. It appears to have been organized in November 1917. The claims in the Beaver Mining District, Shoshone County, originally known as the Portland Group, were owned by Eugene R. Day, George K. Garrett, David C. Smith, and E.G. Ellis.
In 1919, in order to further explore its property, the West Sunset Company rented a shaft of the adjoining Sunset Mine owned by Senator W.A. Clark of Montana. By 1921 the property was inactive, the only function of the company being to hold title to the property. In 1940 the property was purchased by the Portland Mining Company.

Abstract
General correspondence, cash books, financial ledger and journal, inventories, personnel records and tax returns of a mining company in the Beaver Mining District of the Coeur d'Alene region in northern Idaho.
Arrangement
Since there are so few items in this record group, series designations were not made. However the arrangement of the material follows that of other records in the Day Mines group.
Removal of invoices, paid checks, bank statements, and duplicate materials reduced the size of this collection by 0.5 cubic feet.
Immediate Source of Acquisition
The records of the West Sunset Mining Company are part of the records of Day Mines, Inc., donated to the University of Idaho by Henry Day in 1984 and 1985.
