Biographical / Historical
It's unclear exactly when the Sunshine Mining Company was founded, since it grew out of already-existing companies. There are claims that it began in 1904 and in 1918. The earliest records in this collection are from 1918.
Located between Kellogg, Idaho and Wallace, Idaho, the Sunshine mine was one of the most successful and highest-producing silver mines in the United States and the world. "By 1931, the Sunshine mine was the second largest silver producer in the United States. In 1937, the Sunshine was the largest producer in the world. Around 3,513,000 ounces were produced at the Sunshine mine in 1979."[1]
It is unclear whether the Sunshine Mining Company is still operational.
