Biographical / Historical
William H. Wallace was born on July 19, 1811 near Troy, Ohio. He began practicing law in Indiana but eventually found himself as the colonel of state troops and reciever of public money at Fairfield, Iowa. Later in 1861, he appointed governor of Washington Territory by President Lincoln. Wallace never served as governor here however, after he was also elected to be the territory's delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives.
Then in 1863, President Lincoln appointed Wallace governor of the new Idaho Territory. He determined Lewiston to be the territory's capital - though it changed to Boise only a year later. After his term as governor expired, Wallace retruned to te Washington Territory. He lived until 1879.
