Content Description

Artylee Hollada was a student at the University of Idaho in the late 1920s. She was an active member on campus, and eventually settled in Spokane, Washington with her husband Richard B. Leary. Her scrapbook from U of I somehow made its way to a flea market in Texas, and then found its way back to Idaho. The book contains dance cards from U of I events, photographs of campus and fellow students, and photographs of family members.

Biographical / Historical

Artylee (Hollada) Leary was born on September 29, 1907 in Washington State. Not much is known about Artylee's childhood. However, she did enroll at the University of Idaho in 1925. At U of I she was active in the Spurs Club, was a member of the University Orchestra, served as the Senior Class Secretary, and was in the Associated Women Student group. Additionally, Artylee was a frequent participant at campus dances and theater productions, as well as other campus events.

Not much else is known of Artylee's life other than she was a teacher and taught in various places in Idaho like Orofino and Lewiston. She married Richard B. Leary, and the two eventually settled in the Spokane, Washington area. Artylee died on April 19, 1993.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

This scrapbook was found at a flea market in Texas by Ron Carlson. Carlson then sent the scrapbook to Gail Jensen (sister) of Troy, Idaho. Jensen tried to find out more information about Artylee Hollada, until she donated the scrapbook to Terry Abraham, the Head of U of I Library Special Collections and Archives at the time. Abraham contacted Jensen and suggested the scrapbook be in the care of U of I Library.
