Clarence E. Favre scrapbook
Scope and Contents
Clarence E. Favre was a well known figure in the United States Forest Service and a University of Idaho alum. This scrapbook contains photographs of his time spent at U of I, as well as various forestry related assignments across the western US. Separate from the scrapbook is a portrait of Favre. There is also a letter addressed to George Savage from Orinn Webb detailing the items Webb sent to Savage in 1985.

Biographical / Historical
Clarence E. Favre was born on August 31, 1888 in Telocaset, Oregon. Eventually Favre and his family moved to Idaho. He graduated from Cambridge, Idaho public schools and spent his childhood exploring the outdoors.
In 1910, Favre became a guard for the United States Forest Service (USFS) serving on the Weiser Forest. Later he moved on to the Payette Forest, serving as a ranger. Favre was sent to attend the Forestry School at the University of Idaho... in 1912?. When he was a senior at U of I, he was elected captain of the Vandal football team. He also served on the athletics board and was once it's president. He graduated in 1914 and completed his master's degree just one year later. Additionally, Favre was a Lieutenant in the 9th Field Artillery during World War I.
He became supervisor of the Humboldt National Forest in Elko, Nevada from 1917 to 1922. Afterward, Favre served as supervisor of the Wyoming Forest in Kemerer, Wyoming from 1922 to 1936. In 1936 he was named Senior Range Manager for the Intermountain Region at ogden, Utah and in 1938 he was the Assistance Regional Forester. Favre then made his way to Reno, Nevada and served as the supervisor of the Toiyabe National Forest.
Favre retired from the USFS on December 31, 1950 after working in the field for more than 40 years. Hi slast position was State Coordinator of all Forest Service activities in Nevada. Additionally, Favre was a World War I Veteran. He served in the 9th Field Artillery as a Lieutenant.
Clarence E. Favre died on April 7, 1953.

Immediate Source of Acquisition
These materials were originally sent to George Savage, School of Forestry, University of Idaho, by Orrin F. Webb. The scrapbook and photograph of Clarence E. Favre were found in the Special Collections and Archives office in 2018. It's assumed this was transferred to the library from the College of Natural Resources at some point between 1985 and 2018.
