Robert Holder collection
Content Description
Robert Holder, an All-American linebacker (1952), was a U of I alum. After he completed his BS in Chemistry from U of I, he was comissioned as an officer in the United States Navy and served during the Korean War. Holder was inducted into the Idaho Hall of Fame in 1992 in recognition of his Vandal football career.
This collection contains four VHS tapes which are mostly of Vandal football games between 1950 and 1952. It also includes a scrapbook kept by Holder which houses a large amount of newspaper clippings. Lastly there are some items about the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity, Vandal Football, and other miscellaneous materials.

Biographical / Historical
Robert Holder was born on January 17, 1931 to Carl and Emilie (Winter) Holder in Waterloo, Iowa. As a teen he attended and graduated from West Waterloo high school.
To pursue a degree in chemistry, Holder enrolled at the University of Idaho. While at the university he was a very active student. He was a member of the "I" Club, the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity, the Phi Beta Kappa Honorary Society, Blue Key, and an U of I Navy ROTC cadet. Holder was also a captain on U of I's football team, earning All-Coast line-backer in 1951 and All-American honors in 1952.
In 1953 he received a commission and served as a naval officer on the USS Gurke (DD-783) during the Korean War. A few years later in life Holder joined the financial firm Merrill Lynch in Spokane, Washington until his retirement after more than forty years. He, along with Flip Kleffner, Duane Hagadone, Bud Benoit, and Bruce Sweeney, were inducted into the Idaho Hall of Fame during the 1992 sports banquet.
Robert Holder died on March 13, 2015.
