Biographical / Historical
The University of Idaho was officially created by the act of the 15th Territorial legislature. The act was approved in 1889, and the university was founded in 1892.
The university celebrated their fortieth anniversary on October 12, 1932. During the celebration, there was a special assembly where all the living members of the board of regents (since 1889), all former state commissioners of education and superintendents of public instruction, and present incumbents were invited to attend as guests of honor. One such guest was John E. Ostrander, the first faculty member at the university who held the professorship in civil engineering and mechanic arts.
