Content Description

Slides of equipment and techniques used in Walter Moden's agricultural engineering research, many of which were invelted or developed by Moden. Topics include various types of seed planting machines, different types of tractors, and sprayers. Also included are slides of Moden's trip to Pakistan as part of an Irrigation Systems Management/Research project, and some of personal travels. Many of the slides are attributed to Moden.

Slides appear to have been removed from binders at an unknown time. Two sections contained no slides. It is unknown if they were misplaced during rehousing or if they were removed before materials were donated.

Biographical / Historical

Walter L. Moden, Jr. was born in Wakeeney, Kansas on 27 July 1930. Walt married Viola "Olee" [Armbruster] Moden on 31 October 1953, and by 1957 made their home in Genessee, Idaho after being hired as an istructor at the University of Idaho. Walt received a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering from Kansas State University in 1957 and a Master of Science in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Idaho in 1961.

Throughout his career, Walt developed many time-saving techniques and equipment for transplanting seeds and grasses as well as mechanical pest control. The images in this collection illustrate such devices and methods, as well as correlate with presentations he gave to various scientific conferences and meetings and articles he wrote.

Walter Moden retired as Professor Emeritus from the University of Idaho in 1989. He passed away 23 January 1999.
