Biographical / Historical
Robert N. Wing was born July 26, 1922 in Seattle, Washington. He served in the United States Navy, sailing on the USS Enterprise. Here he had served as a meteorologist, a career path which would lead him from Seattle to Flagstaff, Arizona, Ely, Nevada, and Ellensburg, Washington. While in Arizona he met and married Dorothy Slye while he was working for the Park Service.
He and his family came to Lewiston, Idaho in 1955. Robert's experience in meteorology gave him an opportunity to work at the Lewiston Airport. In Idaho he made his mark by becoming a Lewiston City Councilor, weatherman, and vintner and author. He is perhaps best remembered for his work elevating the Lewiston-Clarkston area as an established wine destination. Robert's passion for wine and wineries was evident from his articles and other writings investigating the valley's wine history. His research and dedication helped preserve and publicize the information in an engaging way. Robert passed away on October 10, 2011 at 89 years old.
