The clippings are about Dr. Bakaleinikoff instructing an eight year old boy, Lorin Maazel, possible musical prodigy, in conducting. The photo is of Lorin Maazel and Dr. Bakaleinikoff. There is an inscription "With best wishes, Vladimir Bakaleinikoff, Moscow, Idaho, 1938" written on the cover of the book, which was owned by Charles Ratcliffe.

Biographical / Historical
Noted conducter Dr. Vladimir Bakaleinikoff, formerly of the Cincinatti Symphony, was a member of the summer faculty at the University of Idaho in 1938. Charles Leonard Ratcliffe graguated in 1932 from the University of Idaho in 1932 with a degree in music. He later got his masters, and spent much of his career teaching in Twin Falls, Idaho.

Immediate Source of Acquisition
Materials were donated by Charles Ratcliffe's son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Mary Ratcliffe, to the Lionel Hampton School of Music, which transferred the collection to Special Collections in 2022.
