Robert J. Fisher was a student at the University of Idaho from 1941 to 1942. Items in this collection are from the University of Idaho. They including a student handbook, time schedule, textbook lists, a chemistry laboratory outline, a co-ed code book, and a University of Idaho hat. All of these items are from the early 1940s.

Biographical / Historical
Robert John "Bob" Fisher was born to Euna May and Robert C. Fisher on August 29, 1922 in Boise, Idaho. After graduating from Nampa High School in 1940, he sought higher education. He eventually enrolled in the University of Idaho, and was in attendance through the years 1941 to 1942. However, during that year Fisher joined the United States Navy and was sent to a bootcamp in Farragut, Idaho.
Fisher was assigned then to the USS Turkey ATO 143 from 1942 to 1945. This vessel towed targets, water barges, ammunition barges, and damaged warships. During their tours, they were in Australia and many of the South Pacific Islands. Fisher was honorably discharged in December 1945, reaching the rank of Radioman Second Class.
After his time in the military, Fisher enrolled at Oregon State College where he met his wife, Norma Jean Duspiva. They married on April 10, 1949. After his college graduation, he was hired by the Albert Dickinson Company which at the time was a major seed firm. Later life he was employed by the Oregon Department of Employment until his retirement in 1982. Fisher passed away on October 9, 2016.

Series and folders are arranged in alphabetical order. The textile (hat) is the only item separated from the folder arrangements.

The items were donated by Elaine Carpenter, a University of Idaho alum, in the name of her aunt, Norma Jean Fisher.
