Scope and Contents

This collection contains the research and teaching materials of Professor Raymond Lambert Proctor while he was a history professor at the University of Idaho. Topics of his research and teaching include World War II, military strategy, European history, Middle Eastern history, and South American history. Research materials include newspaper clippings, handwritten notes, photographs, maps, photocopies of other articles, corresopndence, and drafts of his written books and articles. Teaching materials include course syllabi, worksheets, student exams, and evaluations.

Biographical / Historical

Raymond Lambert Proctor was born on October 18, 1920 in Bearden, Tennessee to Rufus Proctor and Clara Ruth Lambert. The Proctor family moved to the Pacific Northwest when he was young (exact year unknown). On January 6, 1946, Proctor married Bernie Wegmann in Medford, Oregon.

Proctor served over two decades in the U.S. Air Force, including three years serving in the South Pacific during World War II. In 1960, Proctor retired from the Air Force as a lieutenant colonel.

After his military service, he received a bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland and a doctorate degree from the University of Oregon. In 1965, Proctor moved to Moscow, Idaho and began teaching history at the University of Idaho, where he would teach until he retired in 1986. Beyond his teaching tenure, Proctor conducted in-depth research and produced several books and articles on various topics of world and military history.

Proctor died on Friday, December 13, 1991 in Moscow, Idaho.
