Historical Note
Hornocker Wildlife Institute was founded in 1985 by Dr. Maurice Hornocker who was the dean of the mountain lion research and the leader of the Idaho Cooperative Wildlife Research Unit at the University of Idaho. The Hornocker Wildlife Institute would conduct intensive long-term research projects on threatened and endangered species and sensitive ecological systems. They used to be part of the University of Idaho but have merged with the Wildlife Conservation Society and are now based out of the WCS offices in Bozeman, Montana.

Abstract
The Hornocker Wildlife Institute was part of the University of Idaho but has merged with the Wildlife Conservation Society. The collection contains the Institute's records of their Selway River survey.
Arrangement
The original order was retained with materials from the 1998 accession followed by materials from the 2000 accession. Born-digital materials were made into a stand-alone series; original electronic file order was maintained. Digital file names and descriptions were used from indexes provided in the collection.

Custodial History
The records of the Hornocker Wildlife Institute – Selway River Survey were in the possession of Charles Swift until time of donation.
Immediate Source of Acquisition
The records of the Hornocker Wildlife Institute – Selway River Survey were donated to the University of Idaho Library by Charles Swift in December 1998 (MA 1998-23), and June 2000 (MA 2000-25).
