Scope and Contents

This collection contains personal papers, course materials from Vincenti's time as faculty at the University of Idaho and a student at Harvard Law, and other research materials. Sheldon Vincenti was an active member of the College of Law for thirty years, including 12 years as the Dean of the College of Law. Most of the materials focus on jurisprudence, education, and research.

Biographical / Historical

Sheldon Vincenti was born Sept. 4, 1938, in Ogden, Utah, to Arnold and Mae Vincenti. Following his childhood in Utah, he traveled to Boston, Mass., to attend Harvard, where he completed his undergraduate degree in 1960 and then went on to receive his J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1963. In 1964 he married Elaine Wacker. They divorced in 1996 after raising their two children. Sheldon served in the U.S. Army Intelligence and Security Branch, where he rose to the rank of captain. After the Army, he practiced law in Ogden for several years before becoming the legislative and administrative assistant to U.S. Congressman Gunn McKay in Washington, D.C.

In 1973, Vincenti and his family moved to Moscow after he accepted a faculty position at the University of Idaho College of Law. He served the law school in many capacities over his nearly 30-year career there, including 12 years as dean. Vincenti passed away in 2010.

Arrangement

No obvious arrangement was noticed upon processing of the collection. During the processing stage archivists reorganized folders and folder names in order to allow easier navigation by archivists and patrons.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

Materials were donated by the Vincenti family in 2010 and 2017.

General

Some materials were discarded due to damage. When the course materials were processed, photocopies of articles and books were discarded when the course's syllabus was available to reference. Duplicates were discarded. Personal materials with private information was discarded.
