Content Description
The Academic History of the University of Idaho was a project created with the support of John C. Shideler and Futurepast: The History Company (Spokane, WA). The project was created for the university’s Centennial celebration.
John C. Shideler graduated from Ingraham High School in Seattle, Washington in 1967. He then completed a BA in history from the University of Washington in 1971, an MA in history from the University of Washington in 1974, and a PhD in history from UC Berkeley in 1979. He was the president of Futurepast: The History Company from September 1994 to October 2024. When Futurepast merged with Omnex, he became the Managing Director of Omnex Futurepast. Shideler also served as the Climate Services Manager at NSF International (2005-2021), the Chair of ISO TC 207 Subcommittee 4 (2013-2023), as an adjunct professor at the Rochester Institute of Technology, and as U.S. Expert, Subcommittee 7 on the U.S. Technical Advisory Group to ISO TC 207 (2002-2025). He authored numerous journal articles and reviews, as well as five books, including Introduction to Climate Change Management: Transitioning to a Low-Carbon Economy (2002), which he co-authored with Jean Hetzel (also published in French under the title Le grand livre de la strategie bas carbone).
