Biographical / Historical

J. Sanford Rikoon is a rural sociologist. In 2017, he was named the Dean of Human Environmental Sciences at the University of Missouri where he had previously been the Curators Professor of Rural Sociology. He Joined the University of Missouri in 1987 and had received his doctorate in ethnography and American studies from Indiana University in 1986. He previously worked with Judith Austin and the Idaho State Historical Society in 1991 with the publication of "Interpreting Local Culture and History."

Abstract

Survey studing fences used in Idaho.

Copy of the report was given to the University of Idaho Special Collections and Archives for its repository by the Idaho State Historical Society.

Existence and Location of Originals

This collection is found in the Small Manuscripts area of Special Collections.

The original negatives for the photographs included in the collection can be found at the Idaho State Archives. The primary identification for ISA's collection is P1984-5-12.

Existence and Location of Copies

Digital copies of the images were transferred from the Idaho State Archives were transferred in March 2025. These digital copies can be found on the Spec Drive: \spec\Processed Collections\Small Manuscript Groups\MG 5418 (Survey of Idaho fence types). Users should be able to locate specific images using Table C in the manuscript. The sheet number is indicated by the fourth number in the identifier (e.g. P1984-5-12.3.1-6 is contact sheet 3, images 1-6).
