Biographical / Historical

Irven (Dale) Smith, born in 1939, was a jazz drummer active in the 1960s in San Francisco, California. There, Smith played Avant Garde music. He spent most of his life in Portland, Oregon playing for gigs there as well before and after his San Francisco stints (1964-1969). Smith experienced various religious visions throughout his life, beginning in his early childhood. He had several experiences with various drugs as well during his career as a drummer.
