Collection spans the years 1951-2004 (with bulk from 1990-2004) and contains materials related to the renovation and addition of the University of Idaho Library, including correspondence about the project, reports, budgets, project planning materials, and copies of architectural materials. Also contains additional dean of library records, including a faculty service award, leadership retreat packets, University of Idaho Foundation records, and meeting agendas/minutes for committee meetings.

Biographical / Historical

Ron Force was appointed dean of library services in June of 1991, following the service of Warren Owens (1968-1986) and Eileen Hitchingham (1987-1990). Before this, Force attended Iowa State University, the University of Minnesota, and Ohio State University; served as assistant director for public services at Washington State University; and served as assistant science librarian, access services librarian, and humanities librarian at the University of Idaho before being promoted to associate dean of library services and acting dean of library services in June 1990.

In September of 1991, ground was broken for the University of Idaho Library renovation project. (unveiled May 1991). Construction on the project was completed in 1993.

Arrangement

Materials are arranged by general topic, with folders organized alphabetically. Collection consists of two series. Series I contains all files and documents in the collection; Series II consists of non-document materials, including booklets, books, and a faculty service award plaque.

Materials transferred by Mary Jane Bailey in 2004 (UA 2004-12).
