The Idaho Research Foundation (IRF) was a private nonprofit corporation created to support university research. Its primary focus was licensing technologies developed from academic research to the private sector. Additionally, the IRF protected UI’s intellectual property and transferred it to the private sector through licensing agreements to secure support for and further develop the university's academic, research, and service responsibilities. The IRF also disseminated scientific knowledge and technical information and encouraged and assisted researchers and inventors by providing how their scientific discoveries may be patented, copyrighted, developed, and applied.
