Biographical / Historical

Hall Macklin was born 6 March 1904 in Morrison, Illinois. He attended and earned a bachelor degree in music from the University of Illinois in 1931 and taught music in Illinois. He performed as part of a dance band which performed throughout the Midwest. He Married Lois Sidles in 1935. She died in 1971. Hall then married Laura DuMars in 1974. He graudated from the University in 1938 with a master's degree in music and in 1947 was named head of the music department. He retired in 1969 and then taught sessions at Florida Atlantic University, Central Washington University, and the University of Idaho. He composed, arranged and published musical work and made appearances as a pianist, organist, and concert accompanist. Macklin died in 7 November 1991.

Charles E. (Chuck) and Bert Lutton were the owners of Lutton Music Personnel Service. They offered opportunities to schools seeking personnel and qualified music teachers in public schools, colleges, univrsities, and conservatories.

Abstract

This collection includes one leaf of sheet music, created sometime during the medieval period. It also includes two letters of correspondence detailing the gifting.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

The materials were gifted to Hall Macklin and the University of Idaho School of Music by Chuck and Bert Lutton in December 1954. They came from the estate of a Mr. Casey. In 1989, the collection was located in the Special Collections area.
