Biographical / Historical

The 1932 Summer Olympics, officially the Games of the X Olympiad and known as Los Angeles 1932. It was an international multi-sport event held from July 30 to August 14, 1932, in Los Angeles, US. The Games were held during the worldwide Great Depression. In total 37 countries competed, and 1,332 athletes participated in 20 disciplines. Herbert Hoover was the US president during that time.

Mary Elizabeth Kostalek graduated from the University of Idaho in 1939 (Bachelor of Science in Pre-Medical studies) and then from the University of Oregon. Her degree from Oregon was a doctorate in Medicine which was conferred in 1940-1941. She was born in 1917 in Moscow, Idaho.
