Biographical / Historical
The American Society of Agricultural Engineers was founded by J. Brownlee Davidson in 1907. The association was created to address engineering’s growing position in agriculture, primarily focusing their efforts on the federal government, education, and the farm equipment industry. Since its creation, the society has now incorporated Biology due to its connection to agriculture. Today the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers’ mission focuses on sustainability and engineering applicability to food, renewable resources, and biological systems. This collection was donated by John Dixon, a former professor of the Agricultural Engineering Department at the University of Idaho. Dixon was born on March 23, 1927, in Roseburg, Oregon and received his degree in agricultural engineering from Oregon State University in 1951. He worked for the University of Idaho from the mid 1950’s until his retirement in 1990. He passed away in 2010.
