Biographical / Historical

Byrd Fanita Wall was a historian, teacher and writer. She taught classes in Twin Falls, Idaho; Reno and Fallon, Nevada. She was born in Missouri on May 5, 1895. She studied at the University of Idaho where she earned her Bachelor of Arts. She was a member and resident of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority. Byrd Fanita Wall later received her Master of Arts in American History at the University of California, Berkeley. She also studied geography at McGill University in Quebec, Canada. Byrd Wall married Dr. Harry Sawyer in 1923. She worked in his office as a midwife. Sawyer was also a librarian and history teacher in Nevada. Sawyer was also an author and co-wrote "The History of Fifty Years of Mining at Tonopah, 1900-1950." Sawyer died 15 October 1981 in Carson City, Nevada.
