Biographical / Historical
Homesteaded in 1885, Troy (which it would later become known as), exists as a small community nestled in Latah County. The Botten Hardware Company, ran by one John H. Botten, was founded in 1901. Later, in 1909, Botten would construct the Botten Building to house his business, now a part of the Troy Downtown Historic District. The Botten Building would be bought in 1937 by one Henry Kaaen, who would continue to use the space as a hardware store.
John H. Botten was born around 1864 in Norway. He was married to Julia Siverson in 1898 in Troy, Idaho. Botten died 20 May 1936. He worked as a blacksmith in Troy as well as running hardware store.
