Biographical / Historical

Franklin W. Phillips was born 23 October 1897 in Spokane, Washington. By 1910, his family had moved to Lewiston, Idaho where he graduated from High School. He married Olive Pring on 22 June 1926. Phillips attended Tulane University where he was on the football team. In 1925 he received a fellowship to Forsyth Children's Dental School and he would return to Lewiston where he would operate a dentist office with his brother, Harry T. Phillips. They practiced together from 1929 to 1942. In 1942, he accepted a position with the Veterans Administration at Boise to serve as a dental surgeon for 10 years before entering private practice specalizing in denture construction. He retired in 1964. Frank Phillips died 31 October 1973 in Lewiston, Idaho.

Olive Blossom Pring was born 24 April 1901 in Cripple Creek, Colorado to Oliver and Mabel Pring. She would move to Lewiston by 1903. She married Frank W. Phillips on 22 June 1926 is Spokane, Washington. She would serve as homemaker to the family, raising their four children. Olive would also assist her family with their real estate business (Pring Real Estate). She died 31 December 1993 in Libby, Montana.

Abstract

Correspondence and materials relating to the Phillips, including love letters and business papers.

Arrangement

Materials were not in any order when processing began. Materials were seperated into three series. The first concerenced various correspondnce to and from Olive and Frank. These correspondence were from each other as well as other family members and friends. The second series relates to various papers from the Phillips everyday lives. The last series was oversized materials including books and ledgers.

The original donation also included materials which were seperated into MG 609, Oliver P. and Mabel Pring collection. Olive was the daughter of Oliver and Mabel Pring.

Additionally, materials were removed during processing due to financial information and mold damage as well as duplicates.
