Starting in 1933, President Mervin. G. Neale had back and forth discussions with many different parties having to do with the approval and construction for a new Infirmary/Hospital building on the University of Idaho campus. Some of the people he corresponded with include the Idaho State Engineer Ivan C. Crawford, Whitehouse & Price Architectural firm, and Idaho State Director J. Vernon Otter. This collection contains four volumes of official docket papers from the proposal, approval, and beginning of construction for the building. Included as well is a six-year plan from 1940 for the construction or improvement of public works on campus, approved by President Harrison C. Dale.

Biographical / Historical

The first half of the materials in this collection fall under the administration of the University of Idaho’s eighth President, Mervin G. Neale, who served from 1930-1937. He graduated from the University of Missouri in 1911 and went on to teach at several colleges, returning to his alma mater to be the Dean of Education in 1923. The second half are from Harrison C. Dale, took up the position of President of the University of Idaho in 1937 until 1946.

Abstract

Official docket papers from the proposal, approval, and beginning of construction for a new infirmary and hospital for the University of Idaho. Four volumes of correspondence from 1933 to 1936 negotiating bonds, grants, funds, contracts, and costs between many parties of federal and state government as well as local contractors and officials at the University of Idaho. Also included is a six-year plan from 1940 for public works on campus from the university.
