Frederick J. Watts papers

 Collection — Multiple Containers
Identifier: MG 594

Scope and Contents

The pieces of writing were all tagged with University of Idaho department of civil engineering or a certain place in Moscow Idaho. The pictures within the photo slides did not have a written place, on a few there were the words u of I or university of Idaho written underneath, so they were all probably taken during class labs or Fred Watts’s personal engineering/ land study outings. The papers in this collection are a mix of his students’ as well as his own. He has letters, course evaluations, a little mix between items of his personal work and items of his students’ work.

Abstract

Both boxes are engineering related items, one box is schoolwork and research, while the other is mainly pictures of the work and what appears to be mathematical equations.

Arrangement

For box 1, during processing two files were arranged. One was directed study info, there are also papers regarding the department of engineering, then the direct study binders and folders were put in order of how they appear on the processing sheet. For box 2 all the photo binders were placed in the box in order how they appear on the processing sheet, as well as having been looked through and placing the photo slides into new slide holders, and re organized them so there were not whole pages of just two photos. Keeping pictures that went together in groups and keeping them in the same order, just making them take up less pages, and putting them into cleaner holders so it was easier to see what the pictures were of.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

Materials were donated by Frederick J. Watts in June 1993.

Processing Information

For box one during processing the papers that related to direct study/ classwork were placed into a folder, it then goes into separate objects which were all Fredrick Watts’s students actual direct study portfolios, then a second folder for department of civil engineering papers or items referencing that. There was also one big binder filled with Misc. items. For the second box it was basically all 35 mm photo slide binders with one civil engineering notebook filled with notes. On the processing sheet those are separated by series and placed throughout the list as objects.
