Provenance

Shaving mug belonged to Idaho Senator William Edgar Borah. Mug was purchased by M. Elizabeth Ware (a U of I alumna) from a Sacramento antiques mall over 20 years ago. It had been acquired by the antiques dealer from an estate sale in Sacramento's Land Park neighborhood. Ms. Ware originally contacted the University of Idaho Office of Estate, Trust and Gift Planning (Sharon Morgan) in 2021 regarding the item. She reached out at at that time and contacted Robert Perret in Special Collections who accepted the gift. Sharon reached out to Special Collections in May of 2024 saying that she had the mug and its letter of provenance. The mug had arrived to her on June 10th of 2023. Both the mug and letter were brought to Special Collections in June of 2024. Ms. Ware notes in the letter that she also has a letter from Senator Borah that was found in her father's papers (likely from his law office) that she plans to donate in the future.
